When he opposes it, it tends to run headlong into the 60-vote barrier. In short, there is no easy route to pick off the necessary 10 Republicans without him.

Sen. McConnell robbed President Obama of his last opportunity to nominate a Supreme Court Justice and thought nothing of it whatsoever. He will do the exact same if Biden gets a chance to nominate a justice in 2024, just before the next Presidential election. McConnell, ever obsessed with seating as many far right justices a possible, will continue to reign supreme in the Senate, even as Senate minority leader. Biden has to start playing tough or nothing will get done which is just what Mitch wants.
