Pope Francis was a leader in the Catholic Church unlike many of the previous leaders of the Holy See in the last 1/2 century. He was willing to take on the Catholic Church entrenched interests and also be a champion of the poor and marginalized communities throughout the World. The Church was led in a direction to care more deeply for the plight of the less fortunate in what many thought was a return to the basic teachings of the Church.
