An uptick in smash-and-grab robberies across the U.S. has jolted businesses, prompting owners and leaders to take precautions to protect brick-and-mortar shops amid a busy holiday shopping season.

The retail industry is already realigning itself in unimaginable ways from just a few years ago. More consumers are not going into the traditional bricks and mortars to do their shopping and instead are opting for the point and click/ appear on doorstep option. High end retailers have been able to weather this new phenomenon the best but are now finding themselves the victim of violent attacks. The only way to stem this new tide of crime will be a more guarded and walled off society which only the elite are privy to enjoy, thus exacerbating the divisions already present in our society.
