State Department: Stay Away From Japan.
As the Olympics are to get started, Japan is experiencing a disturbing Coronavirus surge that threatens to upend the games.
“Travelers should avoid all travel to Japan,” the Atlanta-based Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said in a new Covid-19 update. “Because of the current situation in Japan even fully vaccinated travelers may be at risk for getting and spreading COVID-19 variants and should avoid all travel to Japan.”

The Olympics are set to commence against the grim backdrop of the massive global Coronavirus Pandemic which is far from over and continues to upend the lives of millions of people. The ability to host a successful Olympiad will depend on Japan’s ability to ensure the Olympic athletes and spectators are relatively safe and mass gatherings are kept to a minimum. Japan would be wise to again postpose the games until the pandemic is officially over because it could lead to a super spreader event, and no one wants to associate the Olympics with Covid-19.
