Beyond the immediate aid, the bill, titled the American Rescue Plan, is estimated to cut poverty by a third this year and would plant the seeds for what Democrats hope will become an income guarantee for children. It would potentially cut child poverty in half, through a generous expansion of tax credits for Americans with children — which Democrats hope to make permanent — increases in subsidies for child care, a broadening of eligibility under the Affordable Care Act, and an expansion of food stamps and rental assistance.

Democrats are ecstatic about the passage of the Covid-19 relief bill and what it means for America. Although it passed the Senate on the narrowest of margins, Republicans were never to going to support a bill that America needs to get back on its collective feet. Now the legislative priorities turn to the employment non discrimination climate change. Tragically, if the former President had taken the Corona virus seriously we could have devoted all these Covid relief funds to desperately needed infrastructure improvements. That is not going to happen.
