Judicial Nominees Sailing Through The Senate.

It has been the case in the past that for a lot of these positions there’s been over representation from large corporate firms – not that people from those firms can’t be great US Attorneys or judges,” Sen. Raphael Warnock told CNN. “But as somebody from the activist community, as someone who’s been focused all my career on civil and human rights, I find it heartening to have people who bring that perspective and some balance.”

While the timing of the Senate votes created a striking split screen with what was happening at the United States’ highest court, the recent confirmation spree was the product of years of work to expand the pipeline through which potential judicial nominees travel.

President Biden continues to sail his judicial nominees through the Senate in what could be viewed as direct counter balance to the far right Supreme Court. The nominees are coming from more diverse backgrounds as well, with fewer former corporate attorneys making the cut and more attorneys and judges who previously advocated for things like reproductive rights. Many judges nominated to the Supreme Court come from these lower courts and the hope is that when another opening happens on the Highest Court one of these new judges can sail through the Senate as well. That of course depends on who is in the majority and also who occupies the White House at the time.
