Despite the warnings, some states with still-growing outbreaks, such as Texas and Mississippi, have relaxed restrictions. “I don’t know why they’re doing it but it’s certainly, from a public health standpoint, ill-advised,” infectious-disease expert Anthony S. Fauci told CNN on Thursday. Citing what he said was a high baseline for new infections, Fauci called the decision to pull back on precautions “inexplicable.”

Scientists have a new ally in the White House which is a refreshing change of pace. However, the new found trust in science does not mean every elected official in the nation puts stock into what scientists have to say and that is evident with the mass re-openings of a few select states. Fewer people are getting tested for the Corona Virus, and new strains are emerging, combined with maskless faces could lead to a surge in cases and land us right back to where were were a few months ago. Now is the time to double down on safety protocols to end the pandemic.
