More than 26 million people had voted as of Saturday, according to the U.S. Elections Project, a turnout-tracking database run by University of Florida political scientist Michael McDonald. That’s more than six times the number of votes cast by the same point in 2016.

Voters, not wanting to wait for November 3rd to roll around, and are taking matters into their own hands and making sure to cast their ballots early in this election. This phenomenon is upending the election process and will having a lasting impact on future elections. Hopefully the lasting impact will be greater voter participation which will require fewer barriers to voting first of all, and new ways to cast votes. Internet voting will be here eventually which will completely transform all things election.
