Eastern European homophobia was always a mystery to me. The deep animus seems to be even more firmly rooted than the American Evangelical resistance to equal rights under the law. Younger Evangelicals in this country are coming around to the idea of equality but that seems to just be a pipe dream for the former Eastern Bloc nations that have a secure grip on their bigotry and and are not likely to let go easily.
