The GOP Tries To Exert Further Control Over State Elections To Restrict Voting Rights.
The Republican Party, with its older white shrinking base, is trying to further limit the number of people who can vote to try and win elections. (NY Times)
“Buried in an avalanche of voting restrictions currently moving through the Georgia Statehouse are measures that would give G.O.P. lawmakers wide-ranging influence over the mechanics of voting and fundamentally alter the state’s governance of elections. The bill, which could clear the House as soon as Thursday and is likely to be passed by the Senate next week, would allow state lawmakers to seize control of county election boards and erode the power of the secretary of state’s office.
”
Voting rights is now the next frontier in Civil Rights as racism rears its ugly head. The ability to cast a vote is by definition the foundation of a functioning democracy. The nation is just now trying to recovering from the most divisive presidency in history that used demagoguery to gain power and stay in power. That power was take away last November and many of Donald Trump’s supporters are extraordinarily displeased and desperately trying to find ways to regain their lost clout. Stopping people from voting is the the way they plan to do whisk themselves back into the political drivers seat.
