Republicans now hold supermajorities in the state legislature, and Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) has solidified his grip on the reins of political power in the state, turning Florida into a laboratory for conservative policy experiments. For the first time since Reconstruction, there’s not a single Democrat in statewide elected office.

The GOP has made significant inroads into the Sunshine State during the past few elections. This dimmed Democratic hopes of ever winning its large pool of Electoral Votes and thus must find them elsewhere, namely the industrial Midwest. The Blue Firewall proved to be elusive in the 2016 Presidential Election that upended modern American politics. The South now holds all the keys to GOP Electoral wins probably will for the foreseeable as States like Texas prove unattainable for Democrats.
