Federal Judge Halts Ohio Voter Suppression.

At issue was an order earlier this week from Republican Secretary of State Frank LaRose that limited ballot drop boxes to one location per county: a county’s election office. LaRose had been interpreting an Ohio law that states the only two ways to return an absentee ballot are to mail it or “personally deliver it to the director” as meaning that if a voter chooses to use a drop box, it must be at the County Board of Elections office, because that is still considered to be delivering the ballot directly to the director.

Wanting to ensure fewer people vote is a primary way that Republicans can continue to get elected as their base, a large component of whom are elderly caucasian, continues to shrink with every passing election cycle. Thus, the continued pressure to make it increasingly more difficult to vote with a primary emphasis in battle ground states where small amounts of the electorate prevented from casting their ballots can shape the entire election and determine who sits in the Oval Office. The attempts at voter suppression have become more transparent and blatantly obvious reminiscent of tactics widely used in the Jim Crow era. With no push back from the current Administration the suppression tactics employed are now only stopped by the judiciary.
