Optics matter for elected officials. Governor Newsom chose to not adhere to his own advice about gathering socially and dining out these unforced errors cost officials in the minds of the public. During a particularly monumental event, like a once in a lifetime pandemic, leading by example is of unique importance. Officials in the Ruling Class who disregard the advice given to the general public are usually treated poorly at the polls.
