Its Al Sayed, Now Comes The Hard Part.
Now comes the hard part for Abdul El-Sayed.
After winning Michigan’s bruising Senate primary, El Sayed, the progressive outsider, must use the energy that fueled his primary win, strategists say, to sway the voters who backed his chief rival Rep. Haley Stevens (D) and Mallory McMorrow, the Democratic state senator who dropped out of the race last month also received a share of Tuesday’s vote. El Sayed will also have to win over Black voters — a major demographic in the state — as well as working class and independent voters. (The Hill)
The true test always comes in the general election as candidates must appeal to a broad swath of the electorate to get elected and not just their hard core base. This is True for El-Sayed who swayed Democrats in Michigan but winning the state will be an up hill battle. One thing going for him is the ‘kick the incumbent out’ sentiment sweeping the nation as people tire of the status quo that has brought huge spikes in inflation and a much higher cost of living as a result.
