Muddled Abortion Talk Complicates GOP Messaging.

Republicans keep trying to come up with a coherent message on abortion. And real life keeps intruding.

On the campaign trail this week, Nikki Haley was pressed — yet again — to say whether she’d sign a national abortion ban into law. She dismissed the prospect of such a ban as an effort to “scare people” and jostled with Chris Christie over who had the more reasonable position on abortion.

As soon as ‘Roe V. Wade’ was overturned the spotlight centered squarely on the GOP and their 1/2 century crusade to strip abortion rights away from the general public. Donald Trump had the political wherewithal to immediately recognize the issue would be really bad for the GOP and he was right. As new cases of women scrounging for access to abortion care make national headlines the hardline anti -abortion stance is not in any winning playbook but certain GOP factions won’t budge. And these factions vote in full force. Therein lies their dileman.
