Texas GOP: The Fight To Restrict Voting Rights Is Not Over.

The Texas GOP has vowed to revive a bill that would effective restrict the voting rights of many Texans after the Dems initially blocked the measure. (NY Times)

The word vote with a lock around it
Stung by the last-minute setback for one of the G.O.P.’s top legislative priorities, after Democrats killed the measure with a dramatic walkout Sunday night, Gov. Greg Abbott suggested he would withhold pay from lawmakers because of their failure to pass the bill.

“No pay for those who abandon their responsibilities,” Mr. Abbott, a Republican who strongly supported the bill, wrote on Twitter as he pledged to veto the section of the budget that funds the legislative branch.

The right to vote is fundamental to our democracy and that right needs to be expanded to as many people as possible. The dawn of internet voting is around the corner which could prove to be a great equalizer when it comes to who votes and how they vote. Until that happens, Americans must be allowed to participate in this democracy and that right must be made easy and always accessible. Voter restrictions send the wrong message to everyone and must be avoided at all costs or the essence of our democracy could begin to fray.
