Wait, Russia Is A Problem After All.

Since the start of the war in 2022, Washington has committed more than $175 billion in aid for Ukraine, most under the Biden administration. In Trump’s second term, the U.S. briefly paused intelligence sharing with Ukraine and last month halted the delivery of defensive weapons to Kyiv.

Trump has oscillated between praising Ukraine and its president, Volodymyr Zelensky, and calling him “ungrateful” for U.S. assistance during a February White House meeting. But more recently he has stepped up his rhetoric targeting Russian President Vladimir Putin.

The president had more harsh words for Putin on Monday, accusing him of stringing along multiple American administrations and failing to be serious about ending the war in Ukraine, which is now in its third year. BY ALEXIS SIMENDINGER AND KRISTINA KARISCH - 07/15/25 6:41 AM ET

The Russian invasion of Ukraine is still dragging on many years after the initial war began largely due to the unanticipated Ukrainian resistance. The Biden Administration was squarely on the side of the Ukrainians and diametrically opposed to Moscow’s interests, the Trump Administration much less so. The War however is testing the patients of the White House who promised to end it shortly after taking office in January. That has not happened which poses a political problem Trump wants to resolve.
