Senate Agrees On Gun Control Law As Supreme Court Invalidates Gun Control Laws.

A group of 4 Senators negotiated a gun control bill that few thought was possible just weeks prior. (CNN)

But the group was able to get something done that had bedeviled Washington negotiators so many times after shootings like Sandy Hook, Pulse, Las Vegas and Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, cementing their reputations as effective negotiators that fellow senators referred to as the “core four.”
The following is based on CNN interviews with more than a dozen members of Congress and staff, many on background in order to speak more freely to get the inside account and never-before-seen details on how the Senate gun deal came together after more than 30 years of gridlock.

Gun control impetus has a very short shelf life. Time and again the motivation to do anything that changes the status quo rapidly dissipates after a mass shooting event. The public and law makers alike are up in arms in the immediate aftermath of these tragic events but are coaxed into inaction by time and those with vested interests in ensuring no new legislation makes it out of ‘committee’. This time seemed a little different with some actual movement on gun control legislation most thought almost impossible in the hyper partisan and bitterly divided nation.
