The House passed a spending bill Wednesday to fund the government for one week and avoid a shutdown deadline Friday night. The Senate must pass an identical bill — and have President Trump sign it — to avoid a shutdown, but as of Thursday afternoon, lawmakers still weren’t sure how to do that with unanimous consent.

As America tries to pull itself out of the worst health crisis in a century, the Unites States Congress cannot pass even a minimal relief package. Restaurants are shuttering, hotels are closing and ICUs are filling up. Nothing from Congress however to help ease the pain during this Holiday Season. For millions of people in desperate straights this will amount to a bit lump of Congressional coal in their stocking. They may need to use it as a glove to stay warm though so it can’t go right in the stocking.
