This is more than a matter of comfort in a cold snap. Intelligence agencies warn that the United States’ power grids are increasingly vulnerable to attacks from hackers sponsored by foreign adversaries. Hardening the nation’s electrical supply against cyberwarfare is clearly a federal responsibility and a matter of national security. It only makes sense to engineer a more efficient, flexible and reliable electricity network at the same time.

A simple February cold snap has brought our energy vulnerabilities to into clear view. As the article points out, our adversaries are clearly paying attention to these hiccups that will be resolved in a week or two. Our enemies will try and exploit our energy grid weakness and launch a cyber attack virtually crippling large portions of the nation and the economy. The Biden Administration must prioritize our energy policy and energy security to ensure we will win a cyber war designed to cripple the nation.
