But on Tuesday, White House COVID-19 coordinator Jeff Zients conceded that the current pace of vaccinations wouldn’t get the U.S. to the full goal and instead highlighted other vaccination milestones that were not previously public targets. Seventy percent of adults ages 30 and older already have had at least one shot, the White House announced, and by July Fourth, the U.S. will have vaccinated 70% of Americans 27 and older with one shot.

Vaccines continue to be administered to millions of people, now the messaging needs to convince the underserved populations abut the efficacy and safety of the vaccine. Some will never agree to get the jab, sure, but there are still many people who are willing and able to get it if the right incentives are offered. The worthy goal of 70% vaccination needs to be reached in order to stop a fall Covid surge that could be looming on the horizon.
