Johnson & Johnson says it has already started shipping the several million doses it has ready to go, and expects to deliver 20 million doses by the end of March. By the end of June, the company says it will have delivered enough vaccine to protect 100 million people.

A large clinical trial that involved over 40,000 participants showed that this vaccine was 66% effective in preventing moderate to severe disease, and 85% effective in preventing severe or critical disease.

The new Coronavirus vaccine needs to be distributed far and wide as quickly as possible. As the article points out, marginalized communities will great benefit from a 1 dose vaccine as opposed to the issue presented with a double dose vaccine. Communities of color were and are disproportionately devastated by Covid-19 and need to remain a top priority when deciding who is vaccinated and when. Sadly discrimination is rampant as evidenced by Florida Gov. Desantis being forced by a Federal Court to locate vaccination sites in impoverished neighborhoods. This has to end.
